Medical Team

The West Yadkin Volunteer Fire Department medical members are trained to follow the Yadkin County EMS system plan. Our team members range from NC Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) to NC Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) following our county system plan we adhear to the NC OEMS Treatment Protocols allowed by our Medical Director. We are able to assist in the first steps of patient care, from obtaining vital signs (Blood Pressure, Pulse Rate, Respiratory Rate, and Pulse Oximetry levels), providing CPR, and some medication administration. Through the county medical continuing education program our team members have been taught skills such as:

  • Blind Insertion Airway Device (BIAD) with the King Airway
  • Defibrillation of a pulseless patient with our AEDs
  • Intramuscular administration of Epinephrine during anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction)
  • Oral Administration of Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) for allergic reactions,
  • Oral Administration of Aspirin for Chest Pain,
  • Nasal Administration of Naloxone for Opioid overdose,
  • Sublingual Administration of Nitroglycerin for Chest Pain, and
  • Inhalation Administration of Albuterol for Respiratory Distress.
